New Divisions Comilla will be Meghna and Faridpur will be named Padma Division
Own representative, Dhaka, 7 December: Comilla will be named after Meghna river and Faridpur division will be named after Padma river. This was stated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while approving 10 projects at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday (December 7). The Prime Minister presided over the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The meeting also approved the 'Comilla City Corporation Integrated Infrastructure Development' project at a cost of Taka 1,536.10 crore. The Prime Minister discussed the issue of Comilla and Faridpur Division while giving final approval to the project.
State Minister for Planning in the context of the two Divisions Dr. Shamsul Alam said the Prime Minister had expressed his intention on Comilla and Faridpur divisions at the ECNEC meeting. He said that Comilla would be named after Meghna river and Faridpur would be named after Padma river.
