Common people still afraid to go to police station: President

Dhaka, Feb 29: President Md. Shahabuddin said, common people are still afraid to go to the police station, no one wants to go to the police station unless they are absolutely forced to. Unnecessary fear and apprehension of trouble should be removed from people's minds.

He said these in a speech given to senior police officers on the occasion of 'Police Week 2024' at Bangabhaban on Wednesday.

On the occasion of the second day of the ongoing police week, the head of state said that people believe that the police will help them. You have to be more dedicated to earn public trust by providing services to the people.

The President directed the policemen to always be by their side as friends of the people and render selfless service.

He said, the only place of dependence of the common people is the police. Selfless service should be given to the people. In Bangabandhu's Bangladesh, the police will always be by their side as a friend of the people and ensure their safety.

Md. Shahabuddin advised the members of the police force to be more dedicated to serve the people who go to the police station for legal assistance with sincerity and devotion.

He also urged special care to ensure that no one is subjected to undue harassment in the name of routine street checking.

The President said that the price of food products at the consumer level is increasing due to the subsidization of various goods vehicles including food products. It also increases the suffering of the people. Police should be very careful about these activities.

He ordered to take legal action against the one or those involved in these circles. Referring to the currently ongoing national services like 'Emergency Service 999, Online Police Clearance, Online GD' etc., the President said that the police should be more diligent in increasing the scope of information technology services in the future.

The President expressed the hope that Bangladesh Police will play an important role in the determination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a 'Golden Bangla' and in the formation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 'Smart Bangladesh' and above all in the implementation of the centenary development plan 'Delta Plan-2100'.

He said that proper implementation of laws is one of the prerequisites of good governance for development and progress in a democratic state system.
