Dhaka, July 16: The police have arrested Alauddin (35), who was sentenced to life in the sensational Biswajit murder case, from Shivganj in Bogra. He has been absconding since Biswajit's murder in 2012. He was arrested early on Friday (July 15) from his father-in-law's house near the upazila market.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibganj Police Station Deepak Kumar Das said that Alauddin was arrested from the house of Kazi Nurul Islam in that area based on secret information. Alauddin came to visit here with his wife on Thursday night. He was working in a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar while hiding. He was supposed to return to work on Friday night.

OC said Alauddin's wife works in a foreign aid agency in Teknaf. They met Alauddin there and got married in 2016. Before this Alauddin worked in a poultry farm in Gazipur.

Alauddin studied at Jagannath University. He was involved in Chhatra League politics. In 2012, Alauddin was a 3rd year student of that university. On December 9 of that year, tailor worker Biswajit Das was hacked to death in front of Bahadur Shah Park at around 9:30 a.m. on suspicion of being a hartal supporter.

Biswajit's brother Uttam Das filed a case at Sutrapur police station in Dhaka. Alauddin was named accused number 4 of Ezahar in that case. After filing the charge sheet after investigating the case, on December 18, 2013, the judge of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 announced the verdict. Among the 21 accused, 8 were sentenced to death and 13 were sentenced to life imprisonment. At that time eight of the 21 accused were arrested by the police. The remaining 13 are absconding since the incident.
