Dhaka, May 18: NEC chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered the officials to finish those projects with highest priority that have been stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The directive came from the head of the government on May 18. Planning Minister MA Mannan told reporters at noon after the meeting.

The planning minister said the prime minister also directed to set aside a separate allocation for research. He said, "The Ministry of Health will do research because of them, agriculture will do its agriculture. There must be funds. There must be research. Scientists, researchers - they have to keep it."

The minister said foreign consultants would not be hired in the government's development projects either blindly or blindly. Foreign consultants will be appointed only if required.

"We welcome foreign consultants. As much as it is useful in our judgment, we will take it. We will take it only if it is foreign, it is not right," he said. "After checking and sorting, we will take only what we need. We will not turn a blind eye to foreign consultants."

Thanking the farmers and expatriates, MA Mannan said, "We are better off than the damage caused by corona in the world. Most thanks to our farmers, workers. Because of them we have been able to sustain growth. Mainly from agriculture and foreign labor sector."

Today's NEC meeting has approved the Annual Development Program (ADP) for the new financial year (2021-22) for 1,515 projects at a cost of Tk 2,36,793.9 crore. Its final approval will be given in the National Assembly.
