Dhaka, January 16, 2022: Coronavirus infection is increasing rapidly in Bangladesh.

Corona infections have increased by 222 percent in the last one week compared to the previous week. This information was given in the regular virtual health bulletin about the corona infection situation of the country on Sunday (January 18) at noon. Nazmul Islam.

He said the infection was somewhat stable in the country from early November to mid-November. From the third week of December it began to grow steadily. Then in January 2022, the picture of the previous year has changed a lot.

Nazmul Islam said that many people think that the country's infection is increasing due to the new variant of coronavirus Omicron. This, however, is not confirmed by scientific evidence. It must be assumed that the Delta variant is still predominant in the country. A new omikron infection occurred there. And just as the Omicron variant has taken the place of the Delta variant around the world, so will it gradually in Bangladesh.

He further said that in this situation there is no alternative to follow the hygiene rules. We also need to increase the rate of vaccination. We see that the number of people who have registered for vaccination in the country is not as high as the number of people who are not vaccinated. So the place of interest must increase. In this case, we have to cooperate with each other.

The spokesperson of the department said that there is less chance of infection in Omicron, there is less damage, the lungs are less affected- there is no chance to suffer in complacency considering all these. We still need to be as conscious as we were when we were delta-infected, as much as we followed hygiene.
