Coronavirus: Deaths-daily caseload jumps as 12 die across Bangladesh in 24 hours

Dhaka, January 13: Both coronavirus deaths and caseload have swelled in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours- between Wednesday and Thursday- with 12 succumbing to the deadly disease. During this time, 3,359 people tested positive for the virus.

This is the highest daily death toll in nearly three months. Among the 12 deceased were six men and an equal number of women. They all breathed their last while undergoing treatment at government hospitals.

With the recent toll, coronavirus deaths and caseload in the country have increased to 28,123 and 16,04,664 respectively.

The daily infection rate has increased 12.03 percent.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), a total of 27,486 samples were collected and 27,920 samples were tested across 853 government and private laboratories in the country.

Bangladesh has, so far, tested a total of 1,17,78,221 coronavirus samples.

Meanwhile, 302 patients recovered from the disease in between Wednesday and Thursday, taking the recovery toll in the country to 15,51,955. The recovery rate has also dropped to 96.72 percent.

Among the 12 deceased, eight were from Dhaka division, while one each were from Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal and Mymensingh divisions.
