Dhaka, May 18: The National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 has suggested to open the factory in phases after Eid. The suggestion was made at the 34th virtual meeting of the committee chaired by Professor Mohammad Sahidullah.

It was said in the meeting that it was not possible to fully control the traffic before Eid. If people return after Eid, the risk of spreading the infection will increase. If the factories are opened in phases, the people will not have to return to Dhaka at once.

They said the government had extended the ban for another week. The committee expressed concern over the implementation of the restrictions and recommended strict implementation of the announced restrictions. The members of the committee felt that it was necessary to ensure the participation of law enforcement agencies and also to participate in the cooperation activities of the partners.

The e-mail message signed by Dr. SM Alamgir, Chief Scientific Officer, Institute of Pathology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), Department of Health, among other issues discussed and recommended at the meeting is:

It is recommended to ensure 14 days formal quarantine for passengers coming from India. The committee thinks that only after 14 days if the result of PCR test is negative, it should be confirmed. It is also requested to strictly stop unofficial travel through the border area. It was suggested to review the transition situation in India and to continue to close the border with India in the current situation.

The National Committee is looking positively at various steps taken by the government to increase the supply of oxygen to hospitals. The committee expects speedy implementation of these measures. The government's decision to install oxygen generators in all district hospitals was applauded. It is also recommended to supply adequate quantity of oxygen concentrator cylinder. In addition to ventilators for the treatment of deadly diseases, adequate arrangements need to be made in district level hospitals including BiPap, SiPap and high flow oxygen cannula.

BUET's research team was congratulated for providing medical grade oxygen at low cost. The government has decided to sponsor the event, which is promising news for the country and its successful implementation will play a role in reducing dependency, the meeting said.

The meeting discussed the arrival and matches of the Sri Lankan cricket team in the country. Strict hygiene is advised during practice and play.
