Coronavirus wreaks havoc in Bangladesh

Dhaka, April 2: Every day new records of coronavirus epidemic are being set in the country. The number of deaths is also increasing. Such a horrific situation has not been seen since the outbreak of corona in March last year. Although the epidemic has been raging for more than a year, the virus has recently reached alarming proportions. Corona infection has already spread to 31 districts of the country.

Statistical analysis shows that on August 2, 2020, a maximum of 4,019 coronavirus positive patients were identified in a single day.

Then on March 31, that record was broken as 5,358 people tested positive for the deadly virus.

The next day, Thursday (April 1), 6,469 coronavirus positive patients were identified, breaking all previous records.

Meanwhile, on June 30, 2020, 64 people died in one day in with coronavirus.

Yesterday, Thursday, the disease accounted for 59 people.

Health and pathology experts say that no one is immune to coronavirus and death from all walks of life, including top government officials, ministers, state ministers, secretaries, MPs, businessmen, bankers, journalists, doctors and nurses.

Over the past few days, the number of coronavirus infections and deaths have been on the rise. Pathologists and health experts refer to the current situation as an 'emergency health condition'. Most of the people do not listen even after receiving advice.

The first case of coronavirus was diagnosed on March 8, 2020 in the country. The first patient infected with the virus died exactly 10 days later, on March 18. Since then, till April 1, 2021 a total of 6,17,764 people have been infected with coronavirus in the country. So far 9,105 people have died.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque expressed concern over the deteriorating situation and called for compliance with the government's 18 directives to control the virus.

Newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Prof. Dr. Sharifuddin Ahmed termed the current coronavirus situation as a 'national health disaster' and said that neither you nor I are safe if we do not follow the necessary hygiene rules to prevent the coronavirus infection.
