Councillors' monthly honorarium hiked by Tk 5,000

For this reason, on January 19, the local government department issued a notification amending the 'City Corporation (Duties, Functions and Privileges of Councilors and Councilors of Reserved Constituencies) Rules, 2012'. Earlier in 2017, the councillors' honorarium was increased to Tk 35,000.

According to the revised rules, the councillors will get an honorarium of Tk 40,000 per month. Besides, the councillors will get an allowance of Tk 600 per meeting, but this allowance will not exceed a maximum of Tk 2,400 in any month, it has been mentioned in the revised rules. Earlier, councilors used to get an allowance of Tk 500 per meeting, but this allowance could not exceed Tk 2,000 in any month.

The amended rules also state, "Provided, however, that the said expenditure (monthly honorarium and meeting allowance) shall be met from the respective corporation's own funds and no additional allocation shall be claimed for the same. The notification also informed that all the financial rules for monthly honorarium and meeting allowance should be followed properly and any financial irregularity in this expenditure will be held responsible by the concerned designated authority."
