Dhaka, September 2: For the first time in the country, the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), a specialized unit for counter-terrorism, has launched a 'Bomb Data Centre' for the systematic storage and exchange of information on explosions in the country and abroad. The new bomb data center will store information on bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and militants.

Just as militants are trying to carry out militant activities through new technologies, the CTTC is also incorporating new technologies to enhance their capabilities. The bomb is said to have data centers in about 35 countries around the world. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of CTTC Rahmat Ullah Chowdhury told Jago News on Wednesday (September 1) night.

According to the CTTC, the bomb data center will serve as the focal point or info exchange hub of BDCs in other countries, including Interpol. Samples, nature, image analysis, deactivation techniques and militant involvement information collected by the Bomb Disposal Unit's expert team from the scene before and after the blast will be recorded in the Bomb Data Center.

The archive contains 61 realistic replica bombs and IEDs collected from the site. In the future, the information stored in the bomb data center will play a helpful role in identifying criminals. Realistic replicas of bombs and IEDs will be stored in the bomb archive.

Explosive knowledge is required to store and analyze bomb-related information. To this end, the IED Resource Center also has books and publications on related topics to develop the knowledge of the members of the Bomb Disposal Unit.

Explosives, types, nature, field of use, safe deactivation techniques and case studies will be reviewed through studies related to explosives. It also has an e-library.

According to the CTTC, the work of setting up a bomb data center was started under the plan of the then CTTC chief Monirul Islam for the systematic storage and exchange of information related to explosions in the country and abroad. Under the direction of the present CTTC Chief Md. Asaduzzaman, under the overall supervision of Special Action Group Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Abdul Mannan and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Md. Rahmat Ullah Chowdhury, the Bomb Data Center became fully operational.
