Dhaka, January 12: Emphasizing on the need for continuity of development, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh is emerging as a dignified, self-reliant and developing country today as due to the incumbent Awami League government, who has been running the country for a decade after been elected by the people.

The Prime Minister said, "Given the opportunity to run the state for a long time, it has become clear that the whole world is now looking at Bangladesh with respect; which was not the case in the past and many people in the world thought Bangladesh was a country of storms, floods and poverty."

She said, "Today, Bangladesh has set an example in the world in improving the quality of life of the people including poverty alleviation, employment, health care, which we must continue."

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this in her introductory speech while presiding over the regular cabinet meeting on Monday.

The Prime Minister participated in the virtual meeting with the help of video conferencing from Ganobhaban and the Cabinet members from the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat. In fact, this was the first cabinet meeting in the English New Year 2021.

Expressing gratitude to the people of the country for electing her as the Prime Minister for the fourth time, Sheikh Hasina said, "We have got the opportunity to celebrate the golden jubilee of independence and serve the people of the country just as we have celebrated the silver jubilee of independence."

The Prime Minister said, her government wants to make the country self-respecting by utilizing the limited resources and huge population. "We will make the huge population of the country functional with what we have. We want to establish ourselves as a self-respecting nation by continuing our development."

The Prime Minister said, "Father of the Nation said, 'No one can keep us down' - we have been able to prove it to the world today by constructing the Padma Bridge with our own funds and we have moved from a developed country to a developing country."

She said, "Bangladesh have built the Padma Bridge with its own funds - this one decision has changed the image of Bangladesh in the world, the people of Bangladesh are no longer dependent."

At the sme time, she blamed Nobel laureate Dr. Yunus for the conspiracy over the Padma Bridge and blamed his attempt to hold on to the post of MD of Grameen Bank.

"Some well-known people of our country are involved in questioning the Padma Bridge project, which is our misfortune."

"Preparations were taken to stall the project- which could play a huge role in the overall development of the country by increasing the GDP by two percent by connecting our 22 southern districts directly- due to the greed for a small MD position in a bank." she said.
