Dhaka, August 30: In the face of the adverse effects of the pandemic coronavirus, the birth anniversary of the Supreme Lord Krishna, popularly known as Janmashtami, is being celebrated across the country on Monday (August 30). This year too, the festival has been organized domestically to avoid coronary health risks. Janmashtami ceremonies are confined to the temple premises without any gatherings, processions or invitations from devotees. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has issued instructions in this regard in an emergency notification on Sunday.

Hindus believe that about five and a half thousand years ago, on the eighth day of Krishnapaksha in the month of Bhadra in the Dwapar era, on this day, the epoch-maker of Hinduism and the god of love, Shrikrishna Kangsa was born in the prison of Devaki and Basudev. He was born in Kangsa prison with the aim of establishing the rights of peace-loving saints against oppressors and miscreants.

Lord Krishna was a novice in maintaining good manners and suppressing evil. In the establishment of truth and justice, Lord Krishna is therefore seated in the seat of God. Every year, the Hindu community of the world organizes various religious and socio-cultural events to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. However, due to the global corona epidemic, like last year, the day is being celebrated on a limited scale and in accordance with proper hygiene rules.

On this special day, the followers of traditional religions will observe various rituals including fasting, worship and namakirtan. Besides, the day will be celebrated with due dignity through religious solemnity.

On this occasion, various religious, social and cultural organizations have taken various programs. Like every year, the Mahanagar Sarvajanin Puja Committee and Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad have taken various programs to celebrate Janmashtami. Ceremonies have been organized at various temples including Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, ISKCON.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Happy Janmashtami, President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have given separate messages. In the message, they wished and congratulated the Hindu community living in the country and abroad.

Around Janmashtami, worship, Tarakabrahma Harinam Sankirtan and Tarakabrahma Namayagna have been organized in various temples across the country including the capital. Initiatives have been taken to distribute prasad and hold religious discussions after completing the puja at the temple in the morning.
