Country records 218 more Covid-19 deaths; 9,369 new cases

Dhaka, July 31: In 24 hours, between Friday and Saturday morning, another 218 people died of coronavirus, as Bangladesh's Covid-19 death toll rose to 20,685.

Simultaneously, the caseload swelled to 12,49,484 after another 9,369 people tested positive for the virus in the aforementioned 24 hours.

Dhaka division reported 67 deaths, the highest among the eight divisions. Chittagong with 55 and Khulna with 27 stood second and third respectively. Among the others, Rajshahi accounted for 22 deaths, Rangpur 16, Mymensingh 12, Barisal 10 and Sylhet division reported nine deaths.

Among the deceased were 134 men and 84 women. A total of 14,003 men and 6,682 women have succumbed to the virus, across Bangladesh, so far.

Two people among the 218 deceased were aged over 100 years, while four were between 91 and 100 years, 15 between 81 and 90 years, 33 between 71 and 80 years, 66 between 61 and 70 years, 37 between 51 and 60 years, 37 between 41 and 50 years, 17 between 31 and 40 years, six people between 21 and 30 years and one person aged below 10 years.

In the last 24 hours, 30,980 samples were collected and 30,976 samples were tested across the country, with a positivity rate of 30.24 percent. The country has so far tested 77,40,894 samples. The overall positivity rate stands at 16.14 percent.

Meanwhile, 14,017 more patients recovered from the disease across the country in between Friday and Saturday morning, taking the total number of recoveries to 10,64,195.

The overall mortality rate stands at 1.66 percent.
