Dhaka, August 3: Teesta Solar Limited, the country's largest solar power plant, has been inaugurated. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated this 200 megawatt power plant built by Beximco Power at Sundarganj in Gaibandha from a gathering at Rangpur District School Ground on Wednesday afternoon.

The power of the center is being connected to the national grid since last December. The largest solar power plant in the country and one of the largest in Asia has been built on 650 acres of Anabadi Char land in Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha. Beximco Power Limited, a subsidiary of Beximco Group, has built this center named Teesta Solar Limited.

The construction of this huge center in Latshala area of Teesta Par started in 2017. Five and a half lakh solar panels were installed. To connect the produced electricity to the national grid, a 35 km power transmission line of 122 towers of 132 kilo volts has been constructed from Teesta Par in Sundarganj to Rangpur. Substations have been constructed, all types of equipment including inverters have been installed. To protect the power plant from natural calamities like flood and river erosion, a dam and seven kilometers of roads have been constructed for movement. The locals are getting the benefits.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated this power plant as part of her promise to improve the quality of life of the people of the north during her visit to Rangpur.

The generated electricity is being experimentally connected to the national grid since last December. From this center, 200 megawatts of electricity per day will be added to the national grid.

Shayan F Rahman, chairman of Beximco Power Limited, said about the project, "The Prime Minister has a roadmap for global warming and environment protection. The government is doing a lot of work on it. Beximco is a pioneer in many sectors. We believe that this renewable energy sector will be very important for the energy of the future. So we don't decide to invest here."

Mentioning that the project is 100 percent owned by Beximco Power Limited, he said, "We launched the first sukuk bond in the country to finance this project. We have spent about 300 million dollars on this project. In future we are thinking of setting up more solar power plants as per government plans."
