Dhaka, Jan 3: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that there is no opportunity for a person to get away with committing a crime due to his social status. Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus is not above the law.

He said, Dr. Muhammad Yunus was sentenced by the court, not by Awami League. Then why would the government be criticized for this?

Bridges Minister said these in response to questions from journalists at a press conference organized on various contemporary issues at the political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in Dhanmondi of the capital on Tuesday.

He said that Yunus was punished by the court's verdict. Awami League has no responsibility here. The workers who were deprived of dues filed the case. Then why would the Awami League government be criticize here?

Stating that the election is participatory, Obaidul Quader said that it is clear that the January 7 election will be free and fair from the people's participation in the election. But BNP and their allies are unilaterally opposing. BNP distribution of leaflets or terrorist activities - whatever it does - there is no chance to withdraw from the elections.

He said, "BNP is now showing some silence in the name of distributing leaflets. But suddenly they will be armed and come down in the ground. There is good reason to doubt them. Suddenly they can sneak attack, lean terribly. I heard that they are preparing for this."
