Covid-19: 226 people die, 12,236 test positive within 24 hours

Dhaka, July 15: For the fifth day in a row, the daily death toll crossed 200 as 226 people died in the last 24 hours, between Wednesday and Thursday.

During the same time, another 12,236 new people tested positive for the respiratory disease. With it, the death toll and total caseload reached 17,278 and 10,71,774 respectively.

Of the 226 fatalities were 140 men and 86 women.

Two among the deceased were aged above 100 years, three were aged between 91 and 100 years, 22 were aged between 81 and 90 years, 44 were aged between 71 and 80 years, 50 were aged between 61 and 70 years, 49 were aged between 51 and 60 years, 36 were aged between 41 and 50 years, 12 were aged between 31 and 40 years, six between 21 and 30 years, and one each belonging to the 11-20 age category and below 10 years.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka reported 74 deaths, followed by Khulna with 52 fatalities. Chittagong division accounted for 42 deaths, Rajshahi 24, Rangpur 13, Mymensingh 10, Barisal six, and Sylhet five deaths.

A total of 12,053 men (69.76 percent) and 5,225 women (30.24 percent) have died of coronavirus so far in Bangladesh. The overall mortality rate stands at 1.61 percent.

Meanwhile, 8,395 patients recovered from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the country's recovery toll to 9,05,807.

In the last 24 hours, 46,604 samples were collected and 44,941 samples were tested in the country. A total of 77,44,420 samples have been examined in Bangladesh till date. The daily positivity rate was 27.23 percent, while the overall positivity rate stands at 15 percent.
