Covid-19: 246 fatalities, 15,989 new cases in the last 24 hours

Dhaka, August 2: Over 21,000 people have succumbed to the coronavirus across Bangadesh till date. In the last 24 hours- between Sunday and Monday morning- the country recorded another 246 deaths, taking the total to 21,162. 

Meanwhile, the caseload surged to 12,80,317 after another 15,989 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

As usual, Dhaka accounted for the highest fatalities among the eight divisions with 76 deaths. Chittagong was placed second with 64 fatalities, followed by Khulna with 30 deaths, Rajshahi with 22, Barisal 16, Rangpur and Sylhet 14 each, and Mymensingh 10 deaths.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) 15,482 patients recovered from the disease across the country in the last 24 hours, taking the recovery toll to 11,08,748.

It said, 55,937 samples were collected and 53,462 samples were tested across 697 labs in the country. A total of 78,43,885 samples have been tested in the country so far. The daily positivity rate was 29.91 percent, while the total rate stands at 16.32 percent.
