Covid-19: Another 241 deaths, 13,817 new cases recorded in 24 hours

Dhaa, August 4: Bangladesh has registered another 241 coronavirus deaths and 13,817 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, between Tuesday and Wednesday morning. With it, the death toll and caseload surged to 21,638 and 13,09,910 respectively.

Dhaka fell seven short of one hundred deaths within 24 hours, the highest among the eight divisions. Chittagong's 68 fatalities stood second. Thirty-six deaths were reported in Khulna division, 15 in Rangpur, 12 in Rajshahi, seven in Mymensingh, and five each in Barisal and Sylhet.

Among the deceased, 222 died at different hospitals across the country, one was brought in dead, while 18 died at home, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) press release said.

One hundred and twenty-five men and 116 women died in the last 24 hours. A total of 14,544 men and 7,094 women have succumbed to the coronavirus across Bangladesh till date.

In the last 24 hours, 51,902 samples were collected and 49,514 samples were tested across Bangladesh. The daily positivity rate was 27.91 percent. The country has tested 79,48,683 samples so far, for an overall positivity rate of 16.48 percent.

According to the DGHS, another 16,112 people recovered from the deadly disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 11,41,157.

The total recovery rate stands at 87.12 percent, while the mortality at 1.65 percent.
