Covid-19 booster dose to start from Sunday

Own representative, Dhaka, December 18: Booster dose of coronavirus will start from Sunday (December 19). Health Minister Zahid Maleque made the remarks in response to a question from local journalists at a function in Manikganj on Friday (December 17) evening.

The event was organized at Shuvro Center in Garpara area of Manikganj Sadar Upazila on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth centenary, great Victory Day and golden jubilee of independence.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque also said that doctors, nurses, government officials, media workers and the elderly would be brought under the booster dose in the beginning phase.

He added that about 70 million (seven crore) people in the country have been vaccinated with the first dose of coronavirus and about 45 million people (4.5 crore) have been vaccinated with the second dose.

The first case of coronavirus (Covid-19) was detected in the country on March 8 last year. On March 18, 10 days after the first patient was identified, the Directorate General of Health Services confirmed the first Covid-19 death in the country.

In the meantime, the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has been identified in the bodies of two people in Bangladesh. They are both members of the national women's cricket team returning from Zimbabwe. At present they are healthy.
