Covid-19 claims 13 lives within 24 hours; lowest in eight months

Dhaka, January 15: Coronavirus has killed 13 more people in the country within 24 hours, in between Thursday and Friday, the lowest in eight months, according to a press release by the Department of Health.

It last reported fewer deaths than 13 on May 12, 2020; News of 11 deaths came that day.

Of these, 13 deaths were reported on November 7 and 12.

Meanwhile, the death toll has touched 7,862.

In addition, the number of people infected with coronavirus in the country has increased to 5,26,485 people after another 762 people tested Covid-19 positive in the last 24 hours.

The total number of recoveries increased to 4,71,123 people with another 718 patients recovering within the aforementioned 24 hours.

The first case of coronavirus was detected in Bangladesh on March 8; It crossed 5 lakh on December 20. Of these, 4,019 Covid-19 patients were identified on July 2, which is the highest in a single day.

On March 18, 10 days after the first patient was identified, the Department of Health confirmed the first death report in the country. On December 29, it exceeded 7,500. Of these, 64 deaths were reported in a single day on June 30, the highest death toll in a single day.

According to the Department of Health, in the last 24 hours, 13,678 samples have been tested in 199 labs- 115 RT-PCR labs, 26 gene-expert labs and 57 rapid antigen labs- across the country.

So far 34,31,792 samples have been tested.

Considering the sample test in 24 hours, the detection rate is 5.57 percent, so far the total detection rate is 15.34 percent. The recovery rate was 89.48 percent and the death rate was 1.49 percent.
