Covid-19 claims 51 lives in a day, death toll touches 27,109

Dhaka, September 16: Another 51 people have succumbed to the deadly coronavirus in the last 24 hours- between Wednesday and Thursday- across Bangladesh, taking the toll to 27,109, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During this time, 1,862 people tested positive for the disease. The country's Covid-19 caseload stands at 15,38,203.

Among the 51 deceased were 26 women and 25 men. Dhaka division recorded 29 deaths, Chittagong eight, Khulna six, Rajshahi four, Barisal three, and Rangpur one.

Forty-one patients died at government hospitals and 10 at private facilities. The fatality rate was 1.76 percent.

In the last 24 hours, 31,164 samples were collected and 31,149 samples were tested in 808 government and private laboratories across the country. The daily infection rate was 5.98 percent, which is the lowest in over six months.

The country has so far collected 93,63,609 samples, for an overall infection rate of 16.43 percent.

Meanwhile, 3,549 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 14,94,090.
