Covid-19 claims 52 more lives within 24 hours, 2,497 test positive across country

Dhaka, September 8: The deadly coronavirus has claimed 52 more lives- 32 women and 20 men- in between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). During this time, 2,497 people tested positive for the disease.

The country's Covid-19 death toll rose to 26,736, while the total caseload to 15,22,302.

The DGHS said 3,840 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 14,64,594.

With 20 deaths, Dhaka division registered the highest fatalities among the eight divisions, followed by Chittagong with 15, Khulna with nine, Sylhet with three, Barisal and Rangpur with two each, and Rajshahi with one death.

Three people died at home, while 49 at different hospitals across Bangladesh.

The country's recovery rate stands at 96.21 percent and the mortality rate at 1.76 percent.

In the last 24 hours, 27,378 coronavirus samples were collected and 27,528 samples were tested. The daily infection rate was 9.07 percent. A total of 91,46,371 samples have been tested so far, with an overall infection rate of 16.64 percent.
