Covid-19: Country witnesses records in daily deaths, new cases as 247 die within 24 hours

Dhaka, July 26: Both daily deaths and new cases broke records as Bangladesh reported 247 fatalities and 15,192 new infections in the last 24 hours, between Sunday and Monday.

With it, the death toll and caseload surged to 19,521 and 11,79,827 respectively.

Among the 247 deceased were 141 men and 106 women. A total of 13,340 men and 6,181 women have succumbed to Covid-19 across Bangladesh.

Dhaka division reported 72 deaths, which is the highest among the eight divisions. Chittagong accounted 61 deceased, while Khulna registered 46 fatalities, Rajshahi 21, Rangpur 16, Barisal 12, Sylhet 14 and Mymensingh five deaths.

As many as 50,952 samples were tested across the country during the last 24 hours, which is the record for the number of samples tested in a single day. The daily positivity rate was 29.82 percent. A total of 55,16,864 samples have been tested so far across Bangladesh, for an overall positivity of 15.72 percent.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 53,316 samples were collected in the last 24 hours. 

In the last 24 hours, 11,052 coronavirus patients recovered across the country, taking the total number of recoveries to 10,09,975.

The mortality rate stands at 1.65 percent.
