Covid-19 health norms go for a toss as people flock to countryside

Dhaka, July 19: Ignoring the fear of death, people are leaving the capital and flocking to the villages on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. The government has normalized everything to make it easier for homebound people to return home after a two-week strict lockdown imposed to prevent coronavirus infection. The lockdown has been relaxed from 6 am on July 15 to 6 am on July 23. However, everyone has been urged to adhere to hygiene and social distance during the journey.

Sometimes there is one day left but the mood of Eid has already started. Buses, rickshaws, CNG have to pay more than usual. Although there is no lockdown, ordinary people are being made to suffer on various pretexts.

All the launches from Sadarghat to Barisal have left as usual. Most of the launches left after two to three hours, although they were asked to be present at the launch by 6 pm. Although the cabin fare is the same as before, the deck passengers have to pay twice as much as before.

Where you used to have to pay two hundred rupees for calling or somewhere else for the launch, now you have to pay four hundred rupees. Although the government had instructed to maintain the distance at all places other than the cabin, it was supposed to take half as many passengers as usual, but nothing much was noticed.

As usual, people were seen sitting on the launch with their beds and cots crowded. There was no plague of hygiene or social distance. Even most people have been seen wandering around without a mask. Even though there is a sterilization gate at the time of launch, most people do not follow it and go directly to the launch.

Although there are various restrictions to keep the common people safe, they are not caring about anything. In the rush to return home, it is as if you are forgetting everything. But a little awareness can keep us safe. Wearing a mask, following government hygiene rules, and keeping your hands clean will keep others safe just as much as it is possible to keep yourself healthy.
