Covid-19 kills 16 more in a day; 785 new patients identified

Dhaka, January 8: The Covid-19 death toll in Bangladesh rose to 7,734 after another 16 people died within 24 hours in between Thursday and Friday, according to an official press release.

Among the deceased were 13 males and three females. They all died at hospitals

In the last 24 hours, 14,068 samples were collected and 13,681 samples were tested in 181 laboratories. The total number of sample tests stood at 33,31,491.

During this period, 785 new cases of the infection were identified. The total number of identified patients in the country stood at 5,20,690.

A total of 833 people, including asymptomatic patients, were cured in the last 24 hours at various hospitals and homes in the country, including the capital. A total of 4,65,279 people has been cured of the disease to date.

So far, the detection rate is 15.63 percent, the recovery rate is 89.036 percent and the mortality rate is 1.49 percent.

The first coronavirus patient was identified in the country on March 8 this year and the first coronavirus patient died on March 18.

Of the total deceased, 5,880 are males (76.03 percent) and 1,854 are females (23.097 percent).

Of the 16 people killed in the last 24 hours, 12 were from Dhaka divisions, two from Chittagong division and one each from Khulna and Mymensingh divisions.
