Covid-19 kills 21 in a day; 578 new cases identified

Dhaka, January 16: Coronavirus has killed 21 people across the country in the last 24 hours. The death toll from the virus rose to 7,883, according to an official press release.

In the last 24 hours, 12,212 samples were collected and 12,215 samples were tested in 199 laboratories. A total of 34,44,007 samples have been tested.

In the last 24 hours, 578 patients have been identified in the sample test. The total number of identified patients in the country stood at 5,27,063 people.

Meanwhile, 633 people, including asymptomatic patients, have recovered in the last 24 hours at various hospitals and homes in the country, including the capital. So far, a total of 4,71,756 people have recovered.

In the last 24 hours, the sample test rate is 4.73 percent. So far, the detection rate is 15.30 percent considering the sample test and the recovery rate considering the detection is 89.51 percent. The identified mortality rate is 1.49 percent.

The divisional deaths include 13 from Dhaka, six from Chittagong and two in Rangpur.

On March 8, the first coronavirus patient was identified in the country. Ten days later, on March 18, the first corona patient died. Of the total 7,883 deaths till January 16, 5,976 were males (75.80 per cent) and 1,907 were females (24.019 per cent).
