Covid-19: Records tumble as 231 die within 24 hours, death toll crosses 18,000

Dhaka, July 19: Surpassing the previous single-day record for death, the country registered 231 fatalities in the last 24 hours, between Sunday and Monday. With it, the death toll too crossed the 18,000 mark.

On July 11, 230 people had died of Covid-19. A total of 18,125 people have died so far in the country. The mortality rate has increased to 1.62 percent.

During the same period, 13,321 new people tested positive for the virus, taking the national caseload to 11,17,310.

Dhaka, as usual, reported the highest number of deaths- 73- among the eight divisions. Khulna registered 57 fatalities, Chittagong reported 43 deaths, Rangpur 17, Rajshahi 16, Mymensingh 11, Sylhet eight and Barisal six.

Meanwhile, another 9,335 patients recovered from the Covid-19 disease across the Bangladesh, taking the total number of recoveries to 9,41,343.

The country also tested 45,012 samples in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was 29.59 percent, while the overall rate stands at 15.3 percent.
