Dhaka, Sept 14: Jatiya Sangsad passed 'Cyber Security Bill 2023' with provisions for arrest without warrant, maximum penalty of crores of Tk 1 crore fine and 14 years imprisonment. State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak proposed the bill for passage in the National Parliament session on Wednesday and it was passed by voice vote.

Earlier, in the discussion of the proposal given for verification of public opinion, the members of the opposition raised objections and opposed various clauses of the bill. In particular, they opposed and objected to the issue of arresting journalists without a warrant. However, opposition members' proposals for a public opinion test were defeated by a voice vote and the bill was passed. At this time, Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku presided over the session. This bill was passed by repealing the Digital Security Act.

Section 27 of the Bill provides for the offense and punishment of cyber terrorism, any person obstructs or obstructs lawful access to any computer or computer network or Internet network with the intention of endangering the integrity, security and sovereignty of the State and instilling fear among the public or any section thereof. -enters or makes legal; Contaminates or introduces malware into any digital device that causes or is likely to cause death or serious injury to any person or impairs or destroys the provision of essential public goods and services or adversely affects any critical information infrastructure. Intentionally or knowingly accesses or accesses any computer, computer network, Internet network, stored information or computer database, or accesses any such stored information or computer database, which is used for any purpose prejudicial to friendly relations with a foreign state or public order; can be or can be used for the benefit of a foreign state or any person or group, so the similar act of that person will be a cyber terrorism crime. If any person commits this offence, he shall be punished with imprisonment not exceeding 14 years or with fine not exceeding Tk 1 crore or with both.
