Dhaka, May 8, 2022: Cyclone 'Ashani' in the Bay of Bengal is not likely to hit Bangladesh.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Enamur Rahman said this while talking to reporters at his office in the Secretariat on Sunday (May 8).

The state minister said the light pressure in the Andaman Sea turned into a cyclone on Sunday morning, adding that it was located 1,175 km from Chittagong seaport. It could hit Visakhapatnam VII of India, Orissa and West Bengal and Satkhira region of Bangladesh. He said the meteorologist and the International Meteorological Office predicted that the cyclone would weaken to a low pressure by touching Visakhapatnam 8, Bhubaneswar, West Bengal on the morning of May 12. The possibility of injury in Bangladesh has not been found so far.

There will be storms and rains in Bangladesh due to the effect of 'Ashani'. But there will be no cyclone or tidal wave, said the state minister. He said the cyclone could turn in any direction at any time. Now it is drifting north-west. If it turns to the north, it could hit Satkhira, Khulna, Barisal and Patuakhali in our country.

The state minister for relief said, "We have held a meeting with everyone and they have been made aware." CPP volunteers agreed on the field. They are issuing cyclone warnings. We have instructed the shelters to be prepared. Their preparation is almost over. I gave rice and money to give cooked food there. There is a fair amount of preparation. Due to the corona, I have instructed the shelters to give shelter to the people following the hygiene rules.

The deep depression in the southeastern Bay of Bengal and nearby areas turned into a cyclone 'Ashani' on Sunday morning. As a result, the Meteorological Department has asked the country's seaports to display the remote warning signal number 2.
