Cyclone Mocha: Distress signal number 10 displayed in Cox's Bazar

Dhaka, May 13: Cyclone Mocha is approaching. As a result, Cox's Bazar has been asked to display distress signal number 10 and Chittagong and Payra seaports to show distress signal number 8. State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md. Enamur Rahman has given this information.

On Saturday (May 13) in the conference room of the ministry, he informed the journalists after the emergency meeting of the implementation board of the preparation program related to cyclone Mokha.

The minister said that since last night, people in danger have been brought to shelters in Cox's Bazar and Chittagong districts. Yesterday, all measures were taken to ensure the safety of people on the most endangered island of St. Martin. At least 8 thousand 500 people staying there have been taken to safe shelter in 37 structures capable of dealing with the super cyclone of the highest tidal level.

He also said that earlier, all the hotels-resorts with strong and safe infrastructure, all government and private infrastructures were taken under the control of the upazila administration for use as shelters. However, Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard are ready to rescue the people there and bring them to Teknaf if necessary. Necessary preparations have also been made in the respective places of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Bandarban which are at risk of landslides due to heavy rains.
