Cyclone Sitrang likely to make landfall at midnight

Dhaka, October 24: Cyclone Sitrang has approached the coast of Bangladesh. Presently, Sitrang Payra is located 170 km away from the sea port. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said that the cyclone could make its main impact at midnight.

On Monday (October 24) night, officials of the Meteorological Department said that according to the information in their hands, by 6 pm, the cyclone Sitrang was 275 km from the Chittagong sea port. In the southwest, 240 km southwest of Cox's Bazar seaport, 220 km from Mongla seaport. South-South-West and 170 km from Payra seaport. It was located in the south-southwest. It is gradually moving towards north-northeast.

They said, from the looks of the situation, it seems that the main blow of Sitrang will come in the middle of the night. It will cross the coast from then till Tuesday morning. Later it will weaken as it passes over land. Due to its effect, rainfall will continue throughout the country including the coastal areas tomorrow.

According to the latest bulletin of the Meteorological Office, the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalkathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barisal, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali and Feni and the islands and chars in these districts will be under danger signal number 7. Chittagong and Cox's Bazar seaports have been asked to display the 6th danger signal.

The river ports of all coastal districts have been asked to display maritime distress signal number 3 (three). All coastal districts are likely to be inundated with high tides of 5-8 feet above the normal tide due to the impact of the cyclone. All fishing boats and trawlers operating in North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to remain in safe harbor until further notice.
