Daily deaths, infection increase as 60 succumb to coronavirus and country registers nearly 4,000 new cases within 24 hours

Dhaka, June 16: Another 60 people- 36 males and 24 females- have died of coronavirus in the last 24 hours across the country. Of the 60, 46 died at government hospitals, nine at private hospitals and five at home. The death toll from the virus rose to 13,282.

During this time, another 3,956 new cases of coronavirus have been identified. The total number of infected patients rose to 8,37,247. The detection rate is 16.62 percent.

A statement signed by Additional Director General (Administration) of the Department of Health, Prof. Dr. Nasima Sultana on Wednesday (June 16) said that 23,967 samples were collected and 23,807 samples were tested in 512 public and private laboratories across the country in the last 24 hours. The total number of sample tests stood at 62,42,786.

In the last 24 hours, the detection rate in the sample test was 16.62 percent. Since the first patient was identified on March 8 last year, the total detection rate has been 13.41 percent.

Meanwhile, 2,679 people recovered in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of patients who recovered after being infected with coronavirus in the country rose to 7,73,752. The recovery rate in 24 hours was 92.42 percent.

The statement further said that out of 60 who died in the last 24 hours, three aged 10-20, one aged 21-30, seven aged 31-40, 10 aged 41-50, 16 aged 51-60 and 23 aged 61 above.

Of the 60 deaths, eight people each died in Dhaka and Chittagong divisions, 17 in Rajshahi division, 14 in Khulna division, six in Sylhet division, four in Rangpur division and three in Mymensingh division.
