Dhaka-17 By-elections DB is investigating whether there was a third party attack on Hero Alom
Dhaka, July 18: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) is investigating whether a third party attacked parliamentary candidate Ashraful Hossain alias Hero Alom during polling in Dhaka-17 constituency.
DMP Additional Commissioner of Police (DB) Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid said this in response to a question at a press conference organized at DMP Media Center on Tuesday (July 18) afternoon. He said that seven people were arrested by the police in connection with the attack on parliamentary candidate Ashraful Hossain alias Hero Alom during the voting in Dhaka-17 constituency. They were arrested after seeing the CCTV footage. The arrested seven people have been handed over to Banani police station.
Haroon Or Rashid said that the election was held peacefully throughout the day. An isolated incident took place at the very end of the election. The incident took place within three to four minutes. Some have been detained. Some other names have been received, investigation is going on. What was the motive of those who carried out the attack with badges around their necks, whether the attack was to question the election or not is being investigated.
"We are investigating. We are trying to find out whether there was a third party among the people holding party badges," Haroon said, noting that no exemption would be granted regardless of the political party involved.
He further said, "The police went to Hero Alom's office. He was requested to file a case. But he left the office before the police went. Yesterday around 10 am, Hero Alam visited the Vidyaniketan school center in Banani with 50 to 60 people. When it was time to talk, he said the election was going smoothly. Later, around 3 pm, he again went to Vidyaniketan school center with many people. We see CCTV showing Hero Alom preparing to strike someone. Later, the police controlled the situation. When he was outside the center, this isolated incident took place."
