DBBL robbery: Counting shows less than Tk 4 cr recovered

Dhaka, March 11: Police have recovered three trunks with money in the robbery of Tk 11 cr from Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited in Uttara of the capital. The intelligence department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recovered them within a few hours of the robbery incident. At that time the driver of the car that was robbed was arrested. Besides, the police detained seven people for questioning. Meanwhile, after recovering the money, DB had said that there might be about Tk 9 cr in three trunks. However, after counting, it was found that there was only Tk 3 crore 89 lakh.

On Friday (March 10), according to police sources, the three trunks recovered were opened in front of five to seven people of Money Plant Link Private Limited on Thursday night. After counting the money of those trunks, Tk 3 crore 89 lakh 50 thousand were recovered.

When asked about this, Additional Police Commissioner of Detective Police Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid said, after the incident of stealing such a large amount of money, several teams of our DB police started working in the field. Our main objective was to catch the robbers along with the money. In just a few hours, 3 of the 4 stolen trunks were recovered. Three trunks were immediately handed over to the Uttara division of DMP after recovery.

He said, when we recovered the car with (money), the trunks were locked. Journalists are also shown locked up. The key to the trunk was with the security company. The trunks were taken to Turag police station and money was collected from the police and security company owners with the keys. We recovered the trunk but did not count the money. Earlier the estimated number was said to be Tk 9 crore.

Meanwhile, Alamgir Hoser, director of Money Plant Link Private Limited, filed a case against 10-12 unidentified people at Turag Police Station as the plaintiff on Thursday night.

On Friday afternoon, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DMP Uttara Division Badrul Hasan said that the director of the money-carrying company has filed a case against unknown persons as the plaintiff in the case of bank robbery.

On Thursday morning, about Tk 11 cr was stolen from a vehicle carrying money of the private Dutch-Bangla Bank from Uttara in the capital.
