Dhaka, January 18: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Delwar Rashid, 42, an activist of the rebel councilor candidate and a fugitive accused in the shooting death of an Awami League activist in Chittagong. He was arrested on Sunday (January 17) night in the Kapasgola area of Chawkbazar police station in the city, RAB said.

The arrested Delwar Rashid is the son of Mofizul Haque of Double Mooring Police Station. He is the accused in the Azgar Ali Babul murder case.

RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) Nurul Abshar said, on the night of January 12, a man named Azgar Ali Babul (55) died.

On the same night, Sijan Mohammad Setu, son of the slain Azgar Ali Babul, filed a case. RAB-7 was investigating the incident. Delwar, the accused in the case, was arrested in a raid in Kapasgola area of ​​Chawkbazar police station on Sunday night on the basis of secret information.

RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) Nurul Abshar said a man named Azgar Ali Babul (55) died on the night of January 12 in the Magpukur Par area of ​​Pathantuli Ward No. 28.

It may be mentioned that on the night of January 12, there was a clash between the supporters of Awami League-backed candidate Nazrul Islam Bahadur and Awami League's rebel candidate Abdul Quader. An Awami League activist named Azgar Ali Babul (55) was shot dead. After the incident, Nazrul Islam Bahadur claimed Babul as his worker. On the same night, police arrested 26 people, including rebel councilor candidate Abdul Quader.

Sejan Mahmud, son of Babul, who was killed in the morning, filed a case against Abdul Quader, a rebel councilor candidate, at Double Mooring Police Station, naming 13 people as the main accused. Besides, 30-40 more people were made unidentified accused. Later, the police sent 11 people, including councilor candidate Abdul Quader, to court for arrest in the case. They were remanded for 10 days. The court granted remand to all of them for 3 days.
