Dengue: 12 deaths, 2,868 hospitalizations reported in one day

Dhaka, August 10: Twelve people have died of dengue fever in the last 24 hours till 8 am on Wednesday. With this, the number of people who have died due to dengue this year has reached 352. At the same time, 2,868 people were newly admitted to the hospital. Which is the highest number of infected in a single day this year. Before this, 2,764 people were infected and admitted to the hospital in one day last Sunday.

This information was shared in the dengue report signed by Md. Zahidul Islam, in charge of the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.

According to the DGHS, 2,868 people were admitted to various public and private hospitals of the country due to dengue infection in 24 hours from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning. Among them 1,092 residents of Dhaka and 1,752 people outside Dhaka.

From January 1 to August 9 this year, a total of 75,069 people were admitted to the hospital due to dengue. Among them, 38,814 people were admitted in different hospitals of the capital and 36,255 people were admitted in hospitals outside Dhaka.

During the same period of the year, 65,290 people were discharged from the hospital. Among them 34,117 residents of Dhaka and 31,173 people outside Dhaka.

In 2022, 281 people died of dengue, the highest in the history of the country. 27 people died of dengue in the last month of that year, December. At the same time, 62,382 people were admitted to the hospital due to dengue in the year under discussion. However, in the first seven months of this year, dengue deaths have surpassed all previous records.
