Dhaka, July 10: Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said that people in 57 districts across the country have been affected by dengue. Of these, 60 percent of the patients are in Dhaka, while the remaining patients are affected in various districts.

He gave this information in a press conference at the Health Minister's Garpara residence in Manikganj around noon on Sunday. At this time he said that dengue has increased a lot in Bangladesh. So far 67 people have died due to infection. Another 12,000 people have been infected and 2,500 patients are undergoing treatment. Due to the rains, the water stagnates in various places and the breeding of mosquitoes has increased and the number of dengue patients is increasing.

Zahid Maleque said, we are fighting dengue. Urging the City Corporation, Municipality, to spray more and more. The areas of the city where rain water accumulates and the water that accumulates in residential yards should be removed. If this water is not removed, dengue can become more severe. I think if everyone works together we can control dengue.

The minister also said that the dengue situation was not so bad at this time last year. Dengue has increased this year. Dengue cases may increase in the next two months. We all need to be vigilant in such situations. People who have been infected with dengue once have a significantly higher risk of death if they are infected again. Hospitals across the country have dengue units, with trained nurses and doctors. The health department is ready to deal with this situation.
