Dhaka, July 13: Aedes mosquito-borne disease dengue is spreading like an epidemic across the country. In the meantime, there has been a change in the birth and biting pattern of larvae, experts said. In the last few days, 500-700 people have been infected, but in the last two days, the number has exceeded 1000.

This year, from January 1 to July 13, more than 16,000 people were admitted to the hospital due to dengue. Only on July 12, this number exceeded eight thousand. So far, dengue has spread in all the districts of the country except Gopalganj, Chuadanga and Sunamganj. In keeping with Dhaka, the number of dengue patients is also increasing outside Dhaka.

From January to April this year, dengue infection was low, but the increase started from May. In May alone, 1036 people were infected and two died. In June, it increased several times and 5 thousand 956 people were admitted to the hospital. Come July, this picture has completely changed. In the first 12 days of this month, the number of infected people has reached 8,165. And 41 people died. This number is increasing every day.

This time, before the monsoon, the health department has informed about the danger of increasing the severity of dengue. Experts were saying the same thing. Hospitals are struggling to provide treatment in this situation. Government has decided to declare DNCC Covid Hospital as Dengue Dedicated. However, it is difficult to continue the dengue treatment program with only a handful of doctors and nurses in the hospital.

Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Director of Infectious Disease Control Branch of the Department of Health, said that it has been decided to make the DNCC Covid Hospital dedicated to dengue. It has already been announced verbally. However, when asked when dengue patients will be admitted in a fully dedicated manner, he said, adequate manpower and equipment have not yet been arranged to declare the hospital dengue dedicated. Once that is done a fully dedicated hospital will be announced soon.

This year the number of cases and deaths due to dengue is high. When asked about this, Emeritus Professor Dr. ABM Abdullah said that after the first dengue attack, the physical condition deteriorates more if it is attacked for the second or third time. Dengue Dengue 2 is suspected to be more prevalent this year. However, no matter what type of drain or serotype is infected, the risk is higher for those infected more than once. This time the second and third cases are increasing. Complications are also increasing. However, many people underestimate the importance of dengue.
