Dhaka: 403 people arrested on the first day of hard lockdown

Dhaka, July 24: On the first day of the ongoing hard lockdown, 403 people were arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for disobeying government instructions. At that time, 203 individuals and organizations have been fined Tk 1,27,270 in the mobile courts. Besides, the traffic department has imposed a fine of Tk 1,60,000 on 441 vehicles.

On Friday (July 23), the first day of two weeks of strict restrictions after the holy Eid-ul-Azha, eight divisions of the DMP took legal action against these individuals. Iftekhairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DMP's Media and Public Relations Department, said this in the evening.

"On the first day of the lockdown, 403 people were arrested in Ramna, Lalbagh, Motijheel, Wari, Tejgaon, Mirpur, Gulshan and Uttara areas by eight divisions of the DMP from morning to evening for violating government rules. A mobile court and traffic department headed by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a fine of Tk 1,60,500 on 441 vehicles for going out on the road during the lockdown," he said.

"Law enforcement was active across the capital on the first day to ensure the two-week strict curfew to prevent the coronavirus infections. Some people left the house in the capital ignoring the government restrictions for no reason and on various excuses. A total of 203 individuals and organizations were fined Tk 1,27,270 for keeping shops open even during the lockdown," the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DMP's Media and Public Relations Department said.
