Dhaka, 6 November 2022 : Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project Uttara to Tongi Railgate flyover and part of Tongi flyover has been opened.

Two lanes were opened towards Dhaka on the House Building-Tongi Fire Service section of the Tongi flyover. On Sunday (November 6), Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader opened the road for traffic after inspecting the project.

Four and a half kilometers of the 20.5 km long road will be a flyover. The remaining 16 km BRT lane is being constructed at ground level. There is a 175 meter long 10 lane Tongi bridge in between. Bangladesh Bridge Authority is constructing bridges and flyovers. The length of Udal Road from Uttara to Tongi Railgate is two and a half kilometers.

The views of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Gazipur Metropolitan Police were taken to open the two lanes of the flyover and the bridge for traffic. The police of the two metropolises will control the traffic system.

The work of removing the old bridge on the Dhaka side of Tongi Bridge and constructing a new bridge will begin there. Tongi-bound vehicles from Dhaka will have to use the old bridge. The BRT project got government approval in 2012. In this system, only specialized buses will run in two lanes between the roads.
