Dhaka, November 17: Speaking about the Dhaka bus fire incidents in the Parliament on Monday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked why her government, while they are in power, want to tarnish their own reputation by torching the vehicles.

The Prime Minister said that it was her government's job to provide safety to the Bangladeshi citizens, and not put them in danger.

Earlier, BNP MP Harunur Rashid claimed that the government had recently set fire to 11 buses in the capital. He also demanded the formation of a parliamentary committee on the issue.

Replying to the claims, Sheikh Hasina said, "I did not want to get up. But the way the Member of Parliament made the claims is not correct. I have a recorded conversation (between two BNP members), I have listened to it myself. Technology has come a long way."

At that time, the Prime Minister played the recording between the BNP leader and one of the leaders regarding the burning of the car. Which has recently been published through various news outlets.

Addressing Harunur Rashid, the Prime Minister said, "I have put the BNP MP in the front seat of my parliament to talk. But he comes up with such allegations and does not reply to my questions often.

"He is talking about the election. My question is - do they vote at all? They are taking part in the election, taking nominations and leaving. But they don't give any agent on the day of the election. They lost a long time ago.

"Since Khaleda Zia came to power in 2001 after conspiring, the BNP has carried out a series of torture, starting from terrorism, murder, violence against women.

"Everywhere you look today, the tide of protectionist sentiment is flowing. There are CCTV cameras everywhere. In many places, it is clear who is actually setting fire. Because I have pictures.

"It's their habit to come to the Parliament and blame the government," the Prime Minister said.
