Dhaka, September 3: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that there will be no more suffering on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway once the BRT project with Padma Bridge, Metro Rail and other mega projects is completed by December next year. He said this while inspecting the progress of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Cherag Ali area of Tongi in Gazipur on Friday (September 3) morning.

"The Dhaka-Mymensingh highway is facing problems due to poor drainage system. However, the work of BRT project has already been completed by 63.27 percent. The suffering below the under-construction flyover will persist during this monsoon season and then it'll cease," he said.

Urging to accept the temporary pain of the construction work at this time, he said, if the BRT project is launched, 20,000 passengers can be transported on both sides of the highway every hour. It will take only 35 minutes to go from Gazipur to Dhaka.

Asked whether the project was defective, the minister said the ADB had repeatedly inspected the project. ADB would not have financed any design flaws. When the work is done, all the questions will end.

The Minister was accompanied by Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department Md. Nazrul Islam, Secretary of Bridges Department Abu Bakar Siddique, Chief Engineer of Roads and Urban Development Department Md. Abdus Sabur, MD of BRT Project Md. Shafiqul Islam, Project Director Md. Ilias Shah, Dhaka Zone Additional. Chief Engineer Sabuj Uddin Khan, Gazipur Roads Department Executive Engineer Md. Saifuddin along with senior officials of Roads and Bridges Department and BRT Project were present.
