Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 2 August 2023: Trains have started running on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route after a long period of eight months. The train started running on Tuesday (August 1) morning. This has reduced the suffering of passengers. After the hike in bus fares, common people chose trains as their main mode of transportation. But due to stoppage of trains, people have to travel on Dhaka-Narayanganj route at higher fares. Which was beyond the reach of many.

Related sources say that most of the people of Narayanganj travel to Dhaka by rail and road. As Narayanganj is an industrial area and a district close to Dhaka, many people from Narayanganj go to Dhaka and many people from Dhaka also come to work in Narayanganj. At the same time, being a rich commercial area, people travel to Dhaka for various reasons. As a result, both railways and roads are under pressure from the general public.

In order to reduce the pressure of passengers, 9 pairs of trains used to come and go on Dhaka-Narayanganj route every day. Altogether 18 trains were running on Dhaka-Narayanganj route. As such, more than 10,000 people travel from Dhaka to Narayanganj on average every day. More than 3 lakh people travel through this railway every month.

But for the sake of the Padma Rail Link project, train movement on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route was temporarily stopped from December 4 last year. At first it was said for a few months but it was delayed up to eight months.

At that time, the emergency notification said that under the government's fast-tracked project Padma Bridge Rail Link Project, three separate railway lines are being constructed from Dhaka to Gandaria. In order to complete the work quickly, it has been decided to stop all trains running on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route temporarily. After the completion of the project, trains will resume on this line.

On July 25, Railway Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan visited Dhaka-Narayanganj dual gauge double railway line and Padma Bridge rail connection project and said that train movement will start on Dhaka-Narayanganj route from August 1.
