Dhaka North Mayor Dhaka North mayor Atiqul Islam, wife test Covid-19 positive
Dhaka, October 12: Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Md. Atiqul Islam and his wife Dr. Shaila Shagufta Islam have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
North City public relations officer ASM Mamun said on Monday that the mayor and his wife had given samples for testing on Sunday morning because they felt ill.
At night, both of them tested positive for coronavirus.
Mamun said, "The mayor is at home. He has mild symptoms. Physically he is healthy. They have asked the people of the city to pray for their recovery."
Meanwhile, the chief executive officer of the North City Corporation Md. Selim Reza, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Dr. Md. Zobaidur Rahman, Chief Property Officer Md. Mozammel Haque, Mayor's APS-2 Rishad Morshed, Region-6 Regional Executive Officer Sajia Afrin, Region-6 Executive Officer Md. Abed Ali and the assistant executive engineer and work assistant of Zone-1 have also been infected with the coronavirus, Mamun said.
Atiqul Islam, former president of BGMEA, was elected mayor on 28 February 2019 in the by-election of Dhaka North City Corporation.
He was re-elected on February 1, this year.
