Dhaka South city to create heritage zones around historical structures

Dhaka, May 10: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has taken the initiative to create seven separate heritage zones with important and historical structures. As part of this work, Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh visited Dhakeshwari temple area on Wednesday (May 10) with the aim of creating Heritage Zone-5.

DSCC public relations officer Abu Naser informed this information in a press release on Tuesday. It is reported that 66 out of 74 gazetted traditional structures in Dhaka are located in the area under the jurisdiction of South City Corporation. Initiatives have been taken to create seven heritage rings with some of the more important and historical structures including 66 structures. As part of that, Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh visited Dhakeshwari temple area on Wednesday.

DSCC engineering department sources said that there are many traditional structures in this temple area. Plans will be drawn up on how these can be preserved and presented to visitors. Conservation and beautification of other heritage structures under DSCC will be phased.

Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said that no old bus can be added to Dhaka City Transport. City transport will be operated only with new buses.

He said, the number of unfit cars in the capital is decreasing day by day. We are trying to reduce the number of finless buses in the city. It was decided in today's meeting to conduct an operation against these buses.

After the 27th meeting of the Bus Route Rationalization Committee at Buriganga Hall, Nagar Bhavan, DSCC's head office on Tuesday (May 9) afternoon, he exchanged views with journalists. At that time, Mayor Atiq gave this information. Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas was present in the meeting.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said, "DNCC, DSCC, DMP and BRTA will jointly conduct combing operations on routes 21, 22 and 26 from May 21 to June 1, June 11 to June 15 and July 16 to July 20 respectively. No bus without old route permit, without fitness will be allowed to run."
