Dhaka-Tokyo will work together to build Smart Bangladesh

Dhaka, April 27: Bangladesh and Japan will work together on the basis of mutual cooperation in various fields of information technology to build a knowledge-based smart Bangladesh. The two countries will work together on various issues including innovation, research, human resource development, cyber security to build a smart Bangladesh by 2041.

A memorandum of cooperation (MoC) was signed in this regard between the governments of Bangladesh and Japan on Wednesday (April 26). Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio were also present. The MoC was signed in the Large Meeting Room of the Prime Minister's Office of Japan. State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak and Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori signed the MoU on behalf of their respective countries.

Under the Memorandum of Cooperation, the two countries will work on innovation, research, human resource development, digital economy, digital literacy, cyber security based on long-term trustful and reliable relations. Besides, Japan will work together with Bangladesh to build a smart Bangladesh through partnership and mutual cooperation in information exchange, technology of the fourth industrial revolution, etc.

The MoU also states that the two countries will share best practice models and best practices in countering the growing incidence of cybercrime and common cyber security policies. In addition, Bangladesh and Japan will cooperate in human resource capacity building and expert exchange in addition to organizing dialogue on current issues of cyber security.

Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak termed the MoU with Japan as a breakthrough in information technology. He told the media that this agreement will further expand Japan's cooperation in information technology. It will also accelerate our journey to build an affordable, sustainable, intelligent and knowledge-based Smart Bangladesh by 2041.

Junaid Ahmed Palak said, we have already formulated 'Smart Bangladesh: ICT 2041 Master Plan' through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The signing of the Cooperation Agreement will increase Japan's cooperation in the adoption and implementation of projects in accordance with the Master Plan.
