Dhaka, November 19: President Md. Abdul Hamid said, Dhaka University is not just a higher education institution, it is a symbol of our leadership, our guide. Dhaka University has a glorious role in every Bengali movement-struggle including language movement, freedom struggle, liberation war. He said this at the 53rd convocation ceremony of Dhaka University on Saturday (November 19).

The President said that Dhaka University was the nucleus of every movement. The flag of the first independent Bangladesh was hoisted at Kala Bhaban of Dhaka University. Curzon of the University is a historical monument of the Bengal Partition movement. Madhur canteen of the university is also a part of history. Dhaka University is moving ahead with its history and heritage.

Abdul Hamid said, I am very happy to participate in the 53rd convocation of Dhaka University in the current context of breaking through the inertia and dilapidation of the world affected by the Corona epidemic. Please accept my greetings on this sunny afternoon of Hemant. The month of victory is near. Happy Victory Day in advance to all.

He said, at the beginning of the speech, I remember with deep respect Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali father of the nation. I pay tribute to the four national leaders, all the martyrs of the great liberation war and all the martyrs who sacrificed themselves in various democratic movements including the language movement. Remembering those Surya children of Dhaka University, who sacrificed their lives in various democratic movements, including the great liberation war, from the language movement. I pray for forgiveness and peace for their departed souls.

The President said, you know that in the last two years we have celebrated the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the golden jubilee of our independence as well as the centenary of Dhaka University. Since its establishment in 1921, the role of Dhaka University in promoting education and establishing a knowledge-based society by taking the torch of higher education is undeniable. From this highest educational institution of the country, numerous creative people with intellectual, artistic, literary, poet, scientific, political and humanitarian qualities have been created. Whose contribution to the physical and qualitative development of the country is eternal.

The President said that Dhaka University has also contributed immensely to the socio-economic development of Bangladesh. From Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, many leaders who led the country have been enlightened by the education of Dhaka University. Besides, I believe that the students of the university have played a role in social reform by becoming enlightened people and will continue to contribute effectively in the future.
