Dhaka witnesses increase in traffic at night

Dhaka, August 2: Although coronavirus infections and deaths have not decreased, the movement of vehicles and people in Dhaka increased on Sunday night, the tenth day of the ongoing lockdown. From Sunday (August 1), various export-oriented industries, including garments, have been opened.

In addition, launches were allowed to operate till noon on Sunday and then on Monday (August 2) at 12 noon to return the workers to their respective workplaces. It was also instructed to start the bus till 12 noon. As such, the bus service was supposed to be stopped after noon but it was not seen.

During the first few days of the lockdown, which is presently ungoing (July 23 to August 5), the army, BGB, RAB, police crime department and traffic department set up checkposts at various points in the capital to closely monitor the movement of vehicles and people.

Several person were detained and fined for venturing out without any reason. At this time, as soon as evening fell, a quiet silence was observed in Dhaka at night. In the evening, heavy goods trucks and ambulances carrying patients were not seen on the road. The number of people on the road was also insignificant.

On Sunday night, the number of people on the roads were higher than other days of the lockdown. Occasionally a small number of buses were also seen plying.

Due to the increase in passengers, rickshaw pullers wre busy too. Despite the lockdown instructions till August 5, the implementation of the lockdown has faltered.
