Own representative, Dhaka, December 21: The Jatiya Party (JAPA) has proposed to form the next Election Commission (EC) with acceptable persons. After the dialogue with President Abdul Hamid, JAPA Chairman GM Quader told this to reporters in front of Bangabhaban on Monday (December 20) evening.

He said the Jatiya Party has made three proposals for the formation of an election commission in the dialogue. Besides, the party has proposed the names of four or five people in the search committee to form an independent election commission.

At the end of the dialogue, GM Quader said that detailed discussions were held in a very cordial atmosphere. "We have made three proposals. But our main proposal is the same. That is the implementation of what is said in the constitution about EC. We have told the President that it is important to make the law to form the EC. We have said that the EC should be made up of people who are qualified and acceptable. We hope that free and fair elections will be possible if EC is formed with such people."

GM Quader said, "It is possible to formulate a law to form an EC within this period. But the government does not think so. That is why we have said that the President can enforce the laws by issuing ordinances. The president assured to consider these. The President has promised to consider our proposal."

The other members of the delegation were Senior Co-Chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Syed Abu Hossain Babla, Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Co-Chairman Salma Islam and Member of the Presidium and Chief Whip of the Opposition Moshiur Rahman Ranga.
