Dhaka, January 27: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that digital connectivity will be the key to making the country a 'Smart Bangladesh'. Digital connectivity will serve as the foundation for smart citizens, smart economy, smart government, and smart society.

The Prime Minister said this in a video message at the opening ceremony of Digital Bangladesh Mela-2023 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) on Thursday. The aim of this fair is to showcase IT and ITES products and services of the country.

Expressing the hope that digital products will play an important role in investment and export, the Prime Minister said, "Digital Bangladesh is now a reality. Building a smart Bangladesh and a smart nation is our next goal. There is no alternative to using advanced technology to fulfill the goal of building a smart Bangladesh."

The government wants to make Bangladesh economically prosperous by ensuring maximum use of digital technologies including artificial intelligence, internet, virtual reality, augmented reality, robotics and big-data. In this context, she said, "Five-G service will be ensured in industrial areas."

Stating that the young generation is now dreaming of building a 'smart Bangladesh', the head of government said that the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, established the country's first satellite earth station on June 14, 1975, at Betbunia in Rangamati district. Through which the use of information technology started in Bangladesh. Her government announced Vision 2021 as an election promise in the 2008 general elections, the main objective of which was to ensure the socio-economic development of the people through the establishment of Digital Bangladesh.

She said his government launched Bangabandhu Satellite-1 in 2018, which revolutionized the broadcasting and telecommunication sector. During last year's Cyclone Sitrang, Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona districts were able to restore the disconnected telecommunication system. Bangladesh is earning a lot of foreign exchange by using the unused frequency of this satellite. Bangladesh is now the 57th proud member of the world's satellite family.
